Valproic Acid (equivalent to Divalproex Sodium) 250 mg, 500 mg Extended Release Tablet (DEPAMAX®)
Depamax is an anticonvulsant drug used for treatment of seizure disorders. It is also used to treat the acute manic phase of bipolar disorder and for the prophylaxis of migraine.
For treatment of seizure disorders in adults, Depamax is given at an initial oral daily dose of 600 mg in 2 divided doses, up to a maximum of 2.5 g daily if adequate control has not been achieved.
For acute manic episodes of bipolar disorder, it is given at an initial oral dose of 750 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses.
For prophylaxis of migraine, Depamax is given at 250 mg twice daily, up to 1 g daily if necessary in some patients.
Most frequent side effects of Depamax are gastrointestinal disturbances, increased appetite and weight gain. Less frequent side effects are edema, headache and decreased platelet count. Extrapyramidal symptoms have occurred on rare occasions.
Depamax is Valproic acid 250 mg Extended-Release tablet available in blister pack of 10's in a box of 10's and 500 mg Extended-Release tablet available in blister pack of 10's in a box of 10's.
