Quetiapine Film-Coated Tablet (QUETADIN®)

What is Quetadin used for?

Quetadin is an antipsychotic drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia and mania associated with bipolar disorder.

How much and how often should Quetadin be taken?

For schizophrenia, Quetadin is taken starting at 50 mg on day one, 100 mg on day two, 200 mg on day three, and 300 mg on day four, given in 2 divided doses. The usual dose range is at 300 to 450 mg daily, although 150 mg daily may be adequate for some patients.

For acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder, Quetadin is taken starting at a dose of 50 mg twice daily on day one, 100 mg twice daily on day two, 150 mg twice daily on day three and 200 mg twice daily on day four. The usual range is 400 to 800 mg daily, although, in some patients, 200 mg may be adequate.

For elderly patients, Quetadin should be taken at reduced doses starting at 25 mg daily which may be increased in increments of 25 mg to 50 mg according to response.

What are the possible side effects of Quetadin?

The most frequent side effects of Quetadin are somnolence and dizziness. Relatively common side effects are constipation, dyspepsia, dry mouth, and raised liver enzymes values. Orthostatic hypotension associated with dizziness, increased heart rate & syncope have also been observed.

What does Quetadin pack contain?

Quetadin is quetiapine 25 mg film-coated tablet available in blister pack of 10’s in a box of 60’s and Quetadin 100 mg film-coated tablet available in blister pack of 10’s in a box of 60’s.
